films 26-30....

Okay so after a quality week off im back with another update for your reading pleasure! its taken longer than i expected, but im pretty sure thats been due to my birthday celebrations. I know this has nothing to do with films or chick flicks but i went to see frank turner the other day quite possibly one of the best gigs i have ever been too it was in a little church in Bristol, it was simply amazing!!

Also as part of my week long birthday celebrations i did sit down and watch a fair few chick-flicks, this is becoming an obsession!

Right on to business...

Film 26 The thing called love,

A young girl moves from New York to Nashville to become a song writer, at an audition she meets River Phoenix a talented up and coming musician. The pair soon fall in love, have bit of a whirl wind romance and end up getting married within days, they soon begin to regret it. I quite liked this film it had a really cool country soundtrack not usually my cup of tea but it worked well with the film and lets face it this film was mostly about music! the acting was strong throughout. Sandra bullock does a great job in her supporting role as the dittsy Linda Lue. I would recommend this film as pleasant way of spending two hours, it has its ups and downs as standard but a sweet story line backed up with good music always goin to be a winning combination!

Film 27 Hanging up,

This film had a lot of potential with such a strong cast, Diane Keaton, Meg Ryan, Lisa Kudrow and Walter Matthau. The story follows a group of sisters who mostly keep in touch via the telephone, and their relationship with there dying father. This film was supposed to be a bit of a tear jerker with some comic relief thrown in to lighten the mood it failed on both counts. The storyline doesnt really flow and the comedy isnt quite there and the characters don't appear likeable you don't really care for them so the sad scenes are just dull. the only thing that makes this film worth watching was for meg ryans performance she is pretty good but thats it i wouldnt waste your time!

Film 28 The Ugly Truth,

Gerrard Butler is amazing in this film he plays Mike Chadway a chauvinistic tv presenter, that presents a show called the ugly truth about what men and women want from relationships. Abby (katherine Heigl) is a tv producer who has to produce his show. the two immediately clash, but after mike gives her some much needed relationship advice the pair start to bond. Funny from start to finish good solid plot, nothing fancy but it works well think "hitch" but a guide for women.

Film 29 The Bounty Hunter,

Okay so two Gerrard Butler films back to back, this wasnt planned but hey all chick flicks count and it just happened this way :) basically this film is gerrard butler a bounty hunter who gets hired to pick up and bring in his ex-wife a challenge which he happily excepts. Upon taking his ex in he learns that she has uncovered a conspiracy theory which involved one of his friends so he reluctantly helps out as sparks begin to fly. i found this film to be very entertaining gerrards his usual charming self jennifer anniston also plays her role well. good comedy with some action thrown in for good measure. Maybe a tad on the blokey side of chick-flicks.

Film 30 Pretty in pink,

Classic 80's chick flick! I must confess i am loving the 80's chick flicks.  this sees molly ringwald a poor high school girl torn between the affections of duckie (a very young Jon Cryer) her childhood sweet heart and a rich but sensitive Blane. the story follows molly as she tries dating  blame and the troubles that come with their different social circles. fairly good feel good film. Jon Cryer steels the show with his performance as the pretty out there duckie! especially when he dances in the record store! Genius! Again one of the better chick flicks to come out of the 80's
